Priorities

I believe in Providence. All around me, I meet people who work hard, value our beautiful neighborhoods, and need a good education for their kids. We want a sustainable environmental and fiscal future. I’ve spent the last 20 years connecting people to get things done for Providence, and I’m ready to bring my energy and expertise to the Providence City Council.

Promote a Healthy Fiscal Future

Our city faces the fiscal challenge of an underfunded pension system, and the needs of aging infrastructure. Our families face rising rents, higher property taxes and skyrocketing cost of living. The City Council must advocate for fiscal transparency and long-term sustainability to ensure Providence’s future. A healthy fiscal future for our city and our residents must be our first priority.

Support Strong
Public Schools

Strong schools build opportunity, and I’ve spent much of my career advocating for great schools nationally and locally. My three sons attended the Providence Public Schools and I helped organize parents at every school they attended. We need to ensure that students, families and teachers have a strong voice in the return to local control, and that we can move the district forward.

Advance Climate Resilience

The East Side is experiencing the impact of a changing climate, and we must address serious stormwater and flooding issues. For the last six years I’ve worked for the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, where I’ve fought for clean water, green space, and climate resilience. Working with the City of Providence and other stakeholders, we secured millions of dollars for sustainable development in some of our most economically challenged neighborhoods, like Olneyville.

Defend Against Trump

More than ever, policies created in D.C. are impacting our daily lives in Providence. The shadow of fear cast by the federal government requires municipalities to be ready to protect their communities. In the face of mounting authoritarianism, our best most effective response is to ensure that our neighborhoods are strong, connected, and informed.

Address Aging Infrastructure

We all treasure Providence’s historic charm, but that comes with an aging infrastructure. We must develop clear paths to address our sewer and storm water systems. We need to come together and get creative about  how to address the backlog of requests for sidewalks and other infrastructure issues, such as cost-sharing for sidewalk repair.

Support Affordability and Preservation

Ensuring affordability for renters and owners alike is not only compatible with preserving the character of our community, it is necessary to stabilize our neighborhoods and prevent displacement. I will prioritize the critical need for new housing that community members can afford, and I will ensure that such new development is in harmony with our nationally significant historic architecture. I will stand up for the implementation of design standards and neighborhood engagement when projects come before Zoning and the City Plan Commission.

Respond to Constituents

I am committed to responding to your questions, suggestions, and needs. I’ll be publishing a regular Ward 2 newsletter to share the issues that affect you with updates from City Council and our neighborhoods. I will respond to email and help connect residents with city agencies.

Defend our Rights

Since I was a student at Brown, I have stood up for reproductive rights, and in this time of threats to our bodily autonomy, I will continue that fight as a City Council member. I am also proud to live in a city that has a history of affirming the LGBTQIA+ community and am steadfast that Providence should not tolerate discrimination of any kind.

Fight for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety and Accessibility

The East Side has wonderful,  walkable neighborhoods, so we need to prioritize safety and access for travel by foot or bicycle. This means attention to sidewalks, thoughtfully placed bike lanes, and enforcement of speeding and reckless driving. I am also a strong advocate for public transit and support fully funding and expanding RIPTA.
